How long does a makeup trial usually take?
A makeup trial typically takes around 3+ hours, depending on the complexity of the look you want to achieve. It sounds like a lot, but keep in mind this is also the time where we not only apply, but also customize and execute a patch test. I pride myself on not being a "copy and paste, one size fits all" artist. Everyone has unique features that may look very different on you than your inspiration photos. It is always good to carve out as much time possible for this is a very detailed and thorough process and a patch test for allergens can be time consuming as well. This is why I always recommend a trial especially if you have sensitive/ unpredictable skin. Trials ensure both high efficiency within an a tight wedding schedule, all without sacrificing the quality of your experience.

Do I need to bring anything to the makeup trial?
It's always a good idea to bring some inspiration photos of the makeup look you want to try. However, try not to over prepare. Four pictures would be plenty. Things can get really overwhelming really fast when you have too many inspiration pictures (and as an ex-bridal stylist, I say this applies to wedding dress shopping too!) As for makeup and skin care, no need to provide any products whatsoever unless medically prescribed or you have a very specific pair of lashes you want to wear.

Can I bring a friend or family member to the makeup trial?
Unless they too have a trial scheduled for that day, I advice against it. I will address this on a case by case basis. Sometimes you need an extra hype woman or some background moral support, I totally get it. It usually adds quite a bit more time due to the social aspect of it which is why I tend to avoid it whenever possible.

How far in advance should I book?

The sooner the better! I book as far as two years out. However, when it comes to your makeup trial, it is best to book this around 4-6 months before your wedding. This gives you enough time to look for inspiration and the perfect timing to incorporate the personalized skin care routine I will suggest to you to optimize your results for the Big Day.

Do you only do bridal?

I specialize in Bridal but I accept any special event makeup as well as what I like to refer as "Artistic Glam" Check out my service description to learn more about this unique service.

How shouId prepare for a Makeup Trial?

  • Bridal Trial: time 3+hrs dependent on package chosen or look desired

  • Come with makeup free face

  • Do not apply any additional products (including moisturizer/spf/etc) as it may interfere with the products I plan to apply

  • Any self-enhancement such as tanning, lash extensions, etc should be done for preview as well. The idea is to preview the wedding day look/any change in appearance can cause colors to look different or products may have to be switched out entirely.

  • Style your hair- this could be as simple as some curls. Having a full face of makeup (especially when you aren’t used to it) may seem VERY strange if your hair doesn’t match the vibe. So try styling it a similar way to how it will be done on the wedding day.

  • Wear a light white top, of whichever matches your wedding dress color best/ this will give you a better idea of what the makeup will look like with the dress you will be wearing.

Am I allowed to talk during application?

Honestly, be prepared for me to be pretty silent. I say this with all the love, it’s for your own good! One reason being, I am an absolute chatterbox and don’t want you having a headache for the rest of the day. The other being that application will go by a ton faster if neither of our lips are moving. I want you to have time to relax and enjoy as much of the day as you can. So no need to worry about making small talk, the most conversation we will have is during the consultation and a brief overview before event application.

I have super sensitive skin, should I bring my own skincare?

I offer a few options when it comes to strong skin reactivity. I will start by asking what your routine and products typically look like and if you have any history that may effect my approach to your skin type. I offer a "Patch Test Service" that we can preform ahead of time to insure your skins safety with application. This is addressed on a case by case basis as everyone's skin has different needs. Either way, I always recommend consulting your dermatologist ahead of time as I am not a licensed aesthetician and am only basing my knowledge on personal research and experience.

Tips & Tricks

When looking for inspiration pictures...

  • please have 2-4 reference photos ready- this will give me an overall idea of the kind of look you are thinking for the big day without overwhelming yourself with "inspo-overload"

  • keep in mind the majority of the makeup looks you find online will be heavily photoshopped, this is why I recommend you grabbing some inspiration examples off my Instagram or "Portfolio" section on this website

  • Think about what do you specifically like about these pictures and if there’s anything you’d like to adjust, avoid or customize more?

  • try to find models that have similar features to you. This will give you a more accurate representation of what that makeup will look like on you

  • If possible, book your hair trial the same day as your makeup trial to really get the full idea of how you’ll look for the event day. Preferably book hair before makeup since makeup is a lot more affected by the look of the hair.

Skincare Tips

The Week Leading Up:

- GET SLEEP AND LOTS OF WATER!! Really this should be a priority. It makes a huge difference.
- Keep up with your unchanged skincare products and sleep on freshly cleaned pillowcases (even better if it’s satin/silk) Do not sleep with a dirty face ma’am! At least try not to, life happens.
- Take time to REST! Not just physically (sleep and stillness) but also mentally (regular breaks throughout your working schedule, journaling, silence, music) Sensory rest (turn off devices and lights), creative rest (nature and play) and of course emotional rest! No people pleasing. Express your emotions. And Journal (focus on the good parts leading up to the wedding, it’ll be so lovely to look back at in the future)

1-2 Months Before:

- MILD adjustments to your skincare routine may be considered such as mild exfoliating and hydration treatments.

- I like to suggest dermaplanning facials (most aestheticians do these) or a “Clear and Brilliant” facial at a Laser Away location (it’s very pricey but absolutely wonderful if you want to go all out) both help significantly with makeup application and endurance. Plus its benefits will last throughout the honeymoon too!
